Just been doing the Pacific on my map and was considering possible uses for Flying Boats.

The most important roles seem to have been recon missions (not really relevant) and anti-sub warfare (very relevant!)
Perhaps something along the lines of AAP "CAP".

Possible models:

Catalina (A)
Sunderland (B)
Do 24 (G)
H6K Mavis (J)
Cant Z.506 (I)

The Russians evidently built Catalinas under license:

...in the early days of the Pacific War, Dumbos were painted black, and, were used , for night attack, as a a bomber. They had a good record, and, were know as "The Black Cats", thanks, Pellulo

I've been playing with waterplanes and flying boats for many years now, but I decided to remove them from my rules.

Basically they were air units that could land on water, make reconaissance flights and attack subs.

They turned out to be a little bit too specific IMO.

Sure had fun using them, though.
