Very nice. It took me a minute to figure out the white ships were convoy zones, thought you had some kind of neutral navy set up LOL.

I like how you made the Italians gray. When we play we swap the Anz units with the Italian units (not as resourceful as you w/re-painting them). It takes a game or so to get used to it, but we like the the gray/pewter color for Italy much better especially when the Italians and Russians are in the same area. The black/gray combo just goes better for the Euro axis, likewise the tan/brown looks better for the Commonwealth IMO.

Not sure why they didn't give the Italians the pewter, and the Anz brown OOB. I guess it would be unlikely that this color swap would happen in the reprint because you couldn't mesh say a 1st run Pac w/2nd run Europe. Hope Italy at least gets some new sculpts in the re-print (I guess I would have to break out the paint if that happens LOL).

The Italians grey and ANZAC brown made a lot more sense for me as well. I initially decided to do it that way because of the old color scheme from classic A&A where the russians were brown and the germans were grey. I used the german infantry from classic for the Italians and the russian infantry for ANZAC. I know the ANZACs are toting machine guns now but I'm not terribly picky :) Especially since I bought a bunch of the US fighters from the newer games to represent tactical bombers for every power to save money.

Painting the pieces turned out to be a pain. Trying to color match was really difficult. Plus one coat of paint is not enough, and in hindsight I would use full gloss covering instead of semi-gloss. I could remedy that problem, but I'm tired of painting lol.

Yeah, we really like that color scheme much better, and the sculpts come second to us as well.

First run of the board last Saturday was a success! Plenty of mistakes were had by all as well lol. I don't know if anyone really cares, but this is how the first game with all newbies to Global 1940 went down.

After about a 10 hour marathon we called it quits with a mildly inconclusive finish at about turn 6 maybe? I was too exhausted to remember. I played as Germany and Italy. Russia was about to fall in 2-3 turns (Barbarossa started G3). I had Leningrad and Stalingrad firmly and was about to run loose through the countryside and start chipping away at Moscow. U-boats were running rampant in the Atlantic and North Sea as the UK never established a fleet. The UK also screwed up and let Italy take Cairo on turn 2 or 3. I however screwed up as well near the end when I let a US fleet slip into the Med and take Rome relatively unopposed. That hurt. Gotta remember Naval Bases add one movement lol.

In the Pacific Japan was about fudged, but that may have been helped by the fact we were giving India and ANZAC their NO money before they were at war. That is no good. Even if I didn't screw that up, Japan would still have been defeated IMO. Japan's fleet was annihilated by the US between Hawaii and Tokyo twice. The Japanese fleet in the south was destroyed by India and ANZAC, probably because they were too strong. Japan never made a serious attempt at any Indonesian territories. On land they were nowhere near India and China was still kickn. The Burma road was about to be reopened. Japan had a lot of money, but was about to get pushed back on land and their fleet was completely gone.

I feel like if it played out, the Axis would have won a Europe victory. I felt the Italian navy, which was almost entirely intact from setup (some pretty bad rolls), would have destroyed the American transport/escort fleet and taken back Rome with some German help. The Americans did not have another fleet in the works ready to back up their Roman gain. The absence of a threat of a second front in Western Europe, the 70+ income of Germany with NO's, and Russia limited to Moscow meant to me that it was only a matter of time. Rome going down only delayed the inevitable since the Allies would not have been able to keep it.

We're playing again this Saturday, correctly I hope :)

The whole game board 8' x 4' feet. The actual map itself is more like 46" x 86" due to my border area. I believe you are thinking of my acrylic panels that are 2' x 4', of which I have 4, totaling 8' x 4'.

Ahhh ok, thought it looked bigger then 2 x 4 just saw you said you used 2 x 4 acrylic panels and thought it was only that big, but even at that size units are squished in still?
