My map

Post by Mimmo » Fri May 25, 2007 9:40 am

Dear Members,
I have posted here my home made map:
http://www.siamdragontour.com/admin/mod ... educed.jpg
Unfortunately my server doesn’t allow the upload of any file over 999 pixels. The printed version is 240 x 120 cm. (approx. 96 x 47.2 inches).
The original idea was join the A&A Europe with A&A Pacific map’s in to a world and wide scale map creating an A&A New Edition deluxe version.
Here the victories cities list:

ITALY
Rome
Milan
Tripoli

BRITISH COMMONWEALTH
London
Calcutta
Sydney

GERMAN
Berlin
Nuremberg
Paris

U.S.S.R.
Moscow
Leningrad
Stalingrad

JAPAN
Tokyo
Shanghai
Bangkok

U.S.A.
Washington
Los Angeles
Manila

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Best regards.
Mimmo

Not bad, but where are the convoy zones ?

And why is Spain neutral ?
You do remember that Italian soldiers fought in Spain ?
As did german soldiers, and russian pilots, and volunteers from all the world, but yet you keep Spain neutral. Are you one of this political correct guys ? And didnt Turkey join the Allies in 1945 ? But on your map Turkey is neutral.

From US to France are 5 sea zones on your map.
From Gibraltar to Turkey are 6 sea zones ?
So how come the ships sail slower in the mediterreanean, since you do know the real disstance from US to France is 3 times the distance Gib to Turkey. Ah, the Med is full of maple syrup ?

But I like your colours, and the shape of the kontinents are great :D

Dear adlertag,
thank for your reply with very interesting points. Please find my point of view as follows.

>Not bad, but where are the convoy zones ?
I have removed the convoy zone because I think that – in my world scale game – we don’t need it. In fact in both A&A Europe and Pacific, in order to simulate the overseas reinforcements or crude materials for the Great Britain (A&A Europe) and India with Australia (A&A Pacific), the convoy zoned were and interesting idea. In my game the convoy war will be implemented in a new way. I’ll post it when I will have completed all the rules.

>And why is Spain neutral ?
Yes, I have considered Spain as neutral Country because Franco refused the Hitler’s pressure to join in the war by the Axis’s side.

>You do remember that Italian soldiers fought in Spain ?
Yes, of course, I remember it; we fought in the both sides, socialist and communist volunteers for the Republicans, and Black Shirts for the Nationals.

>As did german soldiers, and russian pilots, and volunteers from all the >world, but yet you keep Spain neutral. Are you one of this political correct >guys ?
Yes. For example in the original Axis & Allies edition there was the choice – paying 3 ICP – to invade and take the control over neutral Countries. I 20 years I never use this rule!

>And didnt Turkey join the Allies in 1945 ? But on your map Turkey is >neutral.
I quote from wikipedia: “Turkey. Throughout most of the war, Turkey proclaimed neutrality while providing Germany with raw materials such as its sole supply of chromite. It was not until February 1945 that Turkey declared war on Germany in order to secure a seat in the United Nations. Turkey did not participate in any military operations".
So I think that it will not interesting put Turkey in the game as belligerent Country.

>From US to France are 5 sea zones on your map.
>From Gibraltar to Turkey are 6 sea zones ?
>So how come the ships sail slower in the Mediterranean, since you do know >the real distance from US to France is 3 times the distance Gib to Turkey. >Ah, the Med is full of maple syrup ?
Your point is correct but we draw the map looking to the game playability and close one eye regarding the geography, I mean, in this way we give the opportunity for the USA to be involved in the game more quickly and give the opportunity both for Regia Marina and Mediterranean Fleet to sail in the Mediterranean trying to engage each other.

>But I like your colours, and the shape of the kontinents are great.
THANKS!!

Best regards and have a nice week end.

Is there any particular date for this map? If it's spring 1942 then Frenh West Africa and Madagascar should be vichy France.
Brazil did not declare war until August 1942.

Also, as a colour blind person, I have to say that for me there are too many different shades of brown and green on the map.

Dear Flashman,
thanks for your post.
Here some detail regarding my map

>Is there any particular date for this map?
Yes, it is on March/April 1941. Here the games turn and first turn action:
- Italy: counter attack in Cyrenaica against the Britons.
- UK: hunting the Bismarck (that have its own painted miniature) in the North Atlantic, attack the Italian East Africa (Battle of Cheren) invasion of the Vicy French Madagascar (Operation Ironclad).
- Germany: sunk some British convoy in North Atlantic by the U-Boats beginning the Barbarossa Operation.
- Russian: try to stop the German's invasion e rebuild a defensive second line.
- Japan: attack on Hong Kong, Singapore, Pearl Harbour, etc...
- USA: join into the war.

>If it's spring 1942 then French West Africa and Madagascar should be Vichy France.
Yes, the colours are wrong and I'm correcting the last details in the final version of the map.

>Brazil did not declare war until August 1942.
Yes, but I will leave anyway the Brazil in green colours as allied of the USA in order to bring some operations in the South Atlantic also.

>Also, as a colour blind person, I have to say that for me there are too many different shades of brown and green on the map.
As my home made game is a tribute to New Edition, Pacific and Europe I have used for the map approximately the same colours that you can found in the New Edition map except for the sea that is similar to Pacific.
