These games are coming out May 8th and August 15th of 2010 on the 65th anniversary of V-E Day and V-J Day commemorating all the heroes of WW2.

Sorry if I'm presumptuous Larry, but you might as well face it- Revised Europe and Pacific are the next big hit!!! (You did give the green light on this one- Am I right???)

So I thought we would give it a separate post and let the brainstorming begin!!

:D

I don't think Larry confirmed it would happen. He just said that it was a possibility. It doesn't hurt to brainstorm though.

My wishlist:

AAE
1.The Map: I love the art style of AAE. My favorite of the group. The only things I would change is split up Germany in at least East and West. Possibly have a Berlin area as well. Libya and Egypt should be split in two areas as well. Bessarabia needs to be changed. You should have to pass through Bessarabia to get to the Ukraine. Russia should maybe be split up a bit more too. Maybe Ukraine and Belorussia could be split in two. Make Germany dark grey, U.S. Green, and U.K. tan on the map. Those are the main changes I think I would make.

2. Italy: It is a given that Italy should be a separate power. With this release of AAE give some more Italian unique molds that maybe AA50 isn't giving us.

3. Special Events: Give Germany a surprise attack similar to Japan in AAP against Russia and work the Russian winter in there to even the field.

4. Update the game with elements form AAR and AA50. 3/3 tanks, Cruisers, new strategic bombing, etc...

5. Address balance with Germany and Russia. No crazy German all tank builds that can break the game.

6. Include national advantages, objectives and tech.

7. Mideast Oil: I think this can be reworked so that these are just U.K. territories.

8. Possible include fortress pieces into the game.(D-Day blockhouses)

AAP
1. Get rid of Victory points. I prefer regular A&A victory cities or total conquest. I appreciate how AAP is the most historicaly accurate Axis vs Allies IPC advantage and that Japan could have never completely defeated the U.S., U.K., and China but, to me it never seemed like a true and fun way to win.

2. Address balance with India Crush strategies.

3. Include national advantages, objectives and tech.

4. Update the game with elements form AAR and AA50. 3/3 tanks, Cruisers, new strategic bombing, new chinese molds, etc...

5. Make Japan burnt orange, China light green, U.S. Green, and U.K. light tan on the map.
Linking Them

Make rules to link them with expansions with holding boxes or full map pieces that connect them directly together. Make sure the maps aesthetically match each other so they link right. Address IPC amounts between boards. Australia shouldn't be worth more than Germany. At the moment I think AAP points would have to be a least cut in half to correspond to AAE.

This is my gaming group's attempt at an upgrade and linking of the games:

I dunno... personally, I think I would rather see completely new entries to the A&A family, such as Iwo Jima/some other Pacific battle, and a Mediterranean game! I would love a game based on the North Africa theater, whether a game based on a zoom in of that region in A&A Europe, or a game based on a battle or two. I think Stalingrad is more or less definitely going to happen, which is nice because we'd get a soviet tactical game, but I really want more Pacific like Guadalcanal or a north africa game featuring the Desert Fox!

I think a revised ruleset, similar to LHTR, would be better for Europe and Pacific, personally. I don't like the idea of releasing products that make past ones obsolete, like how A&A Anniversary nearly makes Revised, a product released 4 years ago, obsolete. Just my opinion.

Im with you on this one... why not try making expansion/advanced instead of whole new games...

Another 4 years and you'll get Deluxe with the real-promised-italian-specific-units... welcome to business

I for one would LOVE to buy an expansion for Europe and Pacific, but I'm not sure it would ever happen. We haven't seen it so far, unfortunately. I guess whoever calls the shots thinks that a new game would sell better than an expansion? Perhaps there could be a compromise? Something like...

"Axis and Allies: Mediterranean
Includes new Axis and Allies Europe rules for incorporating Italy and other revisions!"

You'd kill two birds with one stone... a brand new game to attract new audiences potentially, and an expansion to make it a must buy for old veterans. Plus, all the people with Med and not Europe would probably be intrigued and go buy Europe...

*sigh* I can dream, can't I? Lol

As for your Deluxed comment, I really hope that isn't the case! We had the classic A&A, then the 04 revision, but then they add Anniversary Edition just a few years later... I honestly would have not bought Revised if I knew this was the case... I'd much rather buy a brand new A&A experience than another update to the A&A World game, but obviously I'm still going to get AA50 the day it comes out *sheepish grin*

I would just be very disappointed if another world game, or even a Europe or Pacific game, was announced... I'm tired of rehashes, especially when amazing original games like Guadalcanal and Bulge have been made over the past couple years.

No game company, especially Hasbro, is going to release a game UNLESS it makes the older game it replaces obsolete. As for a newer version of either Pacific or Europe, that will probably be heavily contigent on how well the Anniversary edition sells. Will the gaming public buy a game that costs between $70 and $100? How fast does the initial product run sell? Does poor quality control in China start causing problems? Quality control in the most recent game I purchased, Guadalcanal, was not good. B-17 with noses cut off, damaged American carrier, and of course, the mess with the cruisers. I can only assume that nothing in the game is toxic, but given the current problems in China, you can no longer assume that is a safe assumption.

I hear you on that one.

But what I'm saying is that I don't think they HAVE to release games that make older versions obsolete... Guadalcanal, for example, was a great game and ADDITION to the Axis and Allies line, not a rehash making something else no longer worth playing.
