Re: Balance Issues 1942 2nd Ed. Re-Visited

Definitely on the right track. What I like is that these adjustments are already producing a rather different play pattern than the sort I would often see in the vanilla game even with a relatively high bid. This is because we now have a few starting units in totally new positions, which is way more...

Re: Balance Issues 1942 2nd Ed. Re-Visited

After my first game with my buddy Tony using this new set up, and a couple dozen openers simulated on the machine, my impression is that the German bomber location makes the Ukraine battle pretty do or die for the Allies. Maybe Jeff was thinking the same? OOB there is some flexibility to try for Bel...

Re: Balance Issues 1942 2nd Ed. Re-Visited

I love what I'm hearing so far! I think the 2 additional hitpoints for India will definitely help to strengthen the Allied position at the center. It will also make an aggressive Pacific play a bit more palatable, since they could take a shot on East Indies without giving up too much initiative in S...

Re: Balance Issues 1942 2nd Ed. Re-Visited

This is exciting! I think any solution proposed for tournament play is likely to be widely adopted by players in the long form OOB game as well. Even moreso than say LHTR was for Revised, since the players I come across all seem really hungry for some kind of standardized balance solution for 1942.2...

Re: Balance Issues 1942 2nd Ed. Re-Visited

I've been exploring a number of possibilities to make 1942.2 viable at my house and on the A&Aorg boards. I've found the following to be pretty helpful while still staying within the scope of the timeline... My favorite solution for 1942.2, even more than set up changes, is the US Zero Turn. Basical...

Re: Balance Issues in 1942.2

I don't know man, in every A&A game I've ever played, but especially in AA50, Japanese players consistently crush towards Moscow. Has nothing to do with how many spaces are in China (not enough to stall anything, at least in 41 for AA50, and again in 1942.2) or whether or not India has a starting fa...

Re: Balance Issues in 1942.2

Yeah it's tough, I think many people just jump to using a bid because it's familiar, but I've never been fond a preplacement bid, because of the way it can affect opening battles in the first round of gameplay. So just as an example with 1942.2, if you go OOB, Germany can clear the Atlantic esp. tha...

Re: Balance Issues in 1942.2

I'm curious, what sort of concensus would be required, and which online community would you look to? Most people I know have indeed arrived at the view that the set up I'm 1942.2 favors Axis. How this could best be tweaked with a set up change is another issue. I favor beefing up Russia, over making...
